The Goblin Cave v0.2 - Items Update
Items are Here!
It's been around a week or so since the last update. During this time I have been focusing on creating the item system.
Here's the rundown. The item system is meant to add more depth to the game and is the first step to making the game into a roguelike. The player starts the game with no items. however every second round they are given a choice of 3 randomly selected items.
To apply these items the player must go to the unit they wish to add the item to, right click on them and then edit the item slot they wish to add onto.
Players aren't the only ones who get items, enemy units will also get items. Currently the items they get are randomized but in the future they should get more preferred items. You'll know which enemies particularly got the items because they will have a indicator next to their hp bar.
Current Items ~
Whip - Increase Attack Range by 2
Stimmy - Increase Attack Speed by 2
Chair - Increase HP by 500, increase attack damage by 5, increase range by 1 but the unit loses the ability to move
Chestplate - 25% damage reduction, -5 attack damage.
Helmet - 10% damage reduction, 100 hp
Health Potion - At 50% health gain 50% of your health back
Units
Targeting
On the note of Unit balance I have changed a lot that people more invested in the game may find important. Firstly, unit targeting has been reworked a bit. Units now will continuously try to find the closest target until they are in range to start swinging at that point their units will stop looking for the closest unit and will not switch aggression until their target is dead or the target exits their range. This system just makes more sense for a strategy game and I would be interested to see how people feel about it. Another note on the targeting is, Stubborn units still exists (i.e. Greg who never switch their aggression until their targets dead).
Balance
In this patch, I decided to increase hitpoint and attack damage values by x10 to allow for more flexibility in damage values and allow for damage reduction to really mean something.
Vas - 250hp, 20 attack damage, 20hp ability heal
Vroltank - 750hp, 10 attack damage, 20hp ability heal
Greg - 70hp, 10 attack damage, 70hp ability heal ~ new pathfinding so he doesn't switch targets sporadically.
