The Goblin Cave v0.3 - The Beautification And Content Update


Hello Everyone, Recently I have pushed Update v0.3 which I have coined the "Beautification Update".

New Art -

A lot of Goblin Caves art has gotten a massive overhaul to hopefully make it more appealing and interesting. This all came about because I really was tired of looking at my programmer art and wanted more long lasting art. Firstly the game has a new capsule image.

This image captures the vibe of the game, the cardboard aesthetic, the large cave and a goblin.

Secondly I re-did the main menu to include

  • A options menu for volume, a sound, music and master volume all involved
  • A game mode selector, the current only available game mode is the first to 10 auto-battler most are used to. Each game mode will have its own settings to tune your experience. Want more rounds and a higher difficulty? That's possible! Want less rounds and a easier difficulty that's also possible. These should help to create more flexibility for player freedom.
  • A credits to give credit to those who've helped out this project

Lastly, I have edited a lot of in game visuals. The unit stats screen got a complete overhaul, it was very cluttered and did not look good but now its something I can be proud of:

 

Tooltips

My goal this update was really to add clarity to existing mechanics and make the game as a whole more readable, in general auto-chess games have a tendency for not being super beginner friendly and I want Goblin Cave to be as easy to understand as possible. Tooltips are my solution to this, hovering over items, stats or the ability icon (is a skull temporarily) will give tidbits on how things work. I intend on cleaning these up and making them more useful as we go. If anyone has any tips on readability in strategy games let me know!

New Content

This update was very focused on new visuals, however I didn't forget to add more tools to play around with. I added 1 new Unit, and 5 new items.

Earnest ~ 

Earnest is the first ranged character in goblin cave. His main primary design goal was to have a ranged unit that did well into clumps which had become a prevalent strategy so far. 


Earnest tidbits:

  • Earnest uses a new projectile type: Direct which aims at the position where its target last was when fired
  • Earnest ability pierces and that pierce scales with ability power.
Items ~

The goal with adding new items is always to allow for more unique and interesting builds. In this update I aimed to make unique items for earnest as well as more bruiser items overall. I wont be saying what each item does for briefs sake but here's the names.

  • Starlings Medallion: Defense
  • Knights Duty: Offense
  • Vlads Dagger: Offense
  • Obsidian Cleaver: Offense
  • Glog Juice: Offense
