The Goblin Cave v0.4 - Roguelike Update
Hello Everyone, Long time no chat! During this time period I have started to lean the game more into the direction of a roguelike, as I initially promised.
Roguelike-Gameplay
In this update I aimed to get the random generation of roguelike maps incorporated into the game. The format that made most sense in context to my game is the slay of spire map system. Here's a example of what it looks like in game:
Skulls - Battles
Red Skulls - Elite Battles
Gold Bag - Shop
Helmet - Boss
Chest - Treasure Chest
Spoils
Spoils are rewards given to the player after a battle. After finishing, a normal battle the player can recruit a unit as well as get gold and after finishing a elite battle you gain a item, gold, and can recruit a unit.
Shop
The Shop is the place where you are allowed to buy new units and items. i.e. what you are saving coins for.
A lot of the art is definitely placeholder but I am quite happy with it for now.
Enemy Difficulty
In the past enemies weren't as difficult because they didn't have placements and tailored items associated with their class. In patch v0.4 I wanted to increase the difficulty by adding these in. Each unit is assigned a class: Ranger, Assassin, Tank, Bruiser. These classes have spawn and item pools that have a chance of being invoked all the way up to a guarantee depending on the selected difficulty.
What is next?
I have reached my initial goals in terms of the format of the game. However there's a few more things I need to add before I work on the content. Firstly, I want to add actual boss fights instead of them being just harder battles. This will allow me to add more personality and flesh out the story. Secondly I want to add a new game item called a rune, which alters a all units in some way, for example: "your units gain +5 attack damage" or "every attack generates 1 extra mana" these will help create more unique builds and allow you guys to make super broken builds down the line. Even though I want to add all of this I would prefer if I had some more content for you all to play with before I go on another long work cycle so I will add some new items and units in a patch hopefully in a week.
